SWANSON TOPS SALT LAKE CITY 40-LAPPER
Mike Murgoitio of Boise, Idaho stayed atop the USAC Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Series standings despite his sixth-place finish in Saturday’s race at Salt Lake City, but his lead over former series titlist Jim Waters has slipped to 17 points. They will renew the battle for the 2009 title in the Utah capital June 20.
Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. passed Ryan Burdett on lap eight and led the rest of the way to win Saturday night’s 40-lap feature at Rocky Mountain Raceways. Burdett led the first seven laps but ended up third behind second-place finisher Waters. Kipp Posey and Brian McClish rounded out the “top-five” behind Swanson’s TK Motorsports entry.
Swanson was also the fastest qualifier with a nea track record of 13.836 seconds and now ranks 10th in the series standings. Swanson also established a new qualifying record at Roseville, Calif. the previous week.
