BUSY USAC SPEED2 MIDGET WEEK LIES AHEAD
Speedway, Indiana (July 17, 2019)………Summer is a bevy of racing activity with all four of USAC’s Speed2 Midget series in action this weekend in the states of New Hampshire, North Carolina, Indiana and Illinois.
The USAC DMA Midgets make their debut at the The Flat Track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon this Friday, July 19. Seth Carlson (Brimfield, Mass.) captured the series’ most recent race last Saturday at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. He also won the season opener back in May. Will Hull (Plainfield, Vt.) leads the series with four wins this season and holds the advantage in the standings with exactly half the season in the books.
Friday at New Hampshire, the U.S. Legend Cars International series is in action as well. Heat races start at 7:30pm (Eastern) with gates opening and practice starting at 6pm. Tickets, which include open garage and pit access, are $10 for adults with kids 12 and under free.
The USAC Eastern Midgets return to Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, N.C. for the first time this season on Saturday, July 20. Jake Garcia won the most recent visit in 2018. Connor Gross (Asbury, N.J.) and Preston Lattomus (Landenberg, Pa.) each scored victories last weekend at North Carolina’s Wake County Speedway and South Carolina’s Dillon Motor Speedway, respectively. Two-time series champ Jessica Bean (Farmland, Ind.) leads the standings. She finished 5th at Southern National last year.
Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. welcomes back the USAC Engler Machine IMRA series for the seventh time this season on Saturday. Andy Baugh (Mason City, Ill.) returned to victory lane at the 3/8-mile for the fourth time this season in six starts. Korey Weyant (Springfield, Ill.) and Patrick Bruns (Champaign, Ill.) have each won at Spoon River this year as well. Baugh leads the standings with a commanding 56-point lead as he seeks a second consecutive title.
Midwest Thunder Midgets rumble again this Saturday at Indiana’s Montpelier Motor Speedway. Alex Watson, the 2015 USAC Midwest HPD Midget champ, picked up victory number one of the season last Saturday at the quarter mile. Stratton Briggs (Anna, Ohio) also won at Montpelier at the tail end of June. Aaron Leffel (Springfield, Ohio), a two-time and defending series champ and two-time 2019 winner, leads the standings.
Saturday at Southern National Motorsports Park, the Allison Legacy, Super Late Model and SELLM Challenger series will be on hand alongside the Eastern Midgets. Pits open at 2pm (Eastern) with practice at 3:30pm, qualifying at 5:45pm and racing at 7:15pm. Adults tickets are $20, youths age 7-14 are $5 and kids 6 and under free.
Saturday at Spoon River, the DirtCar Modifieds, E-Mods and DirtCar Pro Late Models and DirtCar Hornets are on hand. Pits open at 4pm (Central), grandstands at 5pm, hot laps at 6pm and racing at 7pm. General admission tickets are $10 with kids age 4-10 $3. Adult pit passes are $30 and kids 10 and under pit passes are $20.
Saturday at Montpelier, UMP Modifieds, Super Streets, Thunder Cars and FWD Compacts join the Midgets. Gates open at 3pm (Eastern), hot laps at 5pm and racing at 6:30pm. Adult general admission tickets are $15, kids (12 and under) are free (with paid adult). Pit passes are $30.
