CONCORD, MORRIS & SALT LAKE CITY ALL HOSTS FOCUS RACES;

WUERDEMAN & PETERSON VICTORIOUS; RAIN HALTS GRUNDY COUNTY

Jeremy Frankoski of Huntersville, N.C. hopes to tie a USAC Ford Focus victory record this week as USAC Ford Focus racing occurs on three fronts.

Frankoski leads the Carolina Series to Concord Motorsports Park Wednesday night where he will try to post his fourth consecutive series win. That would tie the USAC record set by Tate Martz (2004 Midwest), Tim Skoglund (2006 California), Mario Clouser (2007 UMARA) and Tim Savage (2007 Utah).

Joe Liguori, who posted the fastest qualifying time Saturday night before rains washed out the USAC/UMARA race at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill., leads that series back to Grundy County this Wednesday. Kipp Posey is atop the Utah Series, which resumes action this Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City.

Ronnie Wuerdeman of Cincinnati, Ohio won Friday night’s 15-lap USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget race at the Gas City I-69 Speedway. He passed Liguori on lap two and led the rest of the way in his Bell Helmets/Klotz Lubricants Hawk. Liguori finished second ahead of Jimmy Simpson, Kent Kriegbaum and Tyler Cottongim. The Midwest series now prepares for a July 10 race at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

Garrett Peterson of West Sacramento, Calif. won Saturday night’s 40-lap USAC California Pavement Ford Focus feature at All American Speedway. He passed Cody Gerhardt on lap 20 and led the final 21 laps to beat series point leader and fast qualifier Nick Romano, Keegan Walmer, Luis Ramos III and Jessica Clark. Gerhardt led the first 19 laps of the race. The next California pavement race is July 18 at Madera Speedway.

Dennis Simunovich of Hollister, Calif. won Saturday night’s 20-lap USAC Junior Ford Focus race at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. He grabbed the lead from Andrew Murray on lap three and led the rest of the way to beat Ethan Quinn, Alex Jacobsen, Tanner Kershaw and Murray. Point leader Kyle Edwards was sixth. The series continues this Saturday night at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
