USAC REGIONAL MIDGETS TO TAKE ON GRANITE CITY JULY 1ST
Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois will play host to a USAC Regional Midget event on Friday night, July 1, 2016.
The $2000-to-win feature event will take place at the 3/8-mile, semi-banked dirt oval alongside the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) Winged Sprint Cars, allowing several drivers the chance to pull double-duty in both series’ events at the same track on the same night.
“We are excited about this new addition to our midget schedule,” USAC Series Director Levi Jones said. “This event is part of USAC’s continued, growing regional racing efforts to give midget racers more events to compete in.”
USAC’s Midget division has competed at Tri-City on 43 occasions dating back to Danny Frye’s victory in 1961. In addition to the regional midget event in July, the USAC Midget National Championship will make a visit Tri-City for three consecutive nights of action at the “Gold Crown Midget Nationals” on October 6-7-8 this year.
Minden, Nevada’s Tanner Thorson was victorious in both of last season’s USAC Midget appearances at Tri-City, sweeping both nights of the “Gold Crown” in September of 2015.
