USAC .25 Midget Announcement
Speedway, Indiana………Effective April 30th, 2018, Jerry Coons will be stepping down as the leader of the .25 program. Jerry did a wonderful job as our leader during the time he was here. We brought him on board fully aware of certain conflicts within his own very successful racing career. While we want to encourage and support Jerry in his own racing endeavors and those of his children, we’ve come to acknowledge that there are too many conflicts that preclude him from having the physical presence that this series requires. We have grown (largely due to Jerry and the efforts of the whole team) and USAC’s quarter midgets are more competitive than ever. Success at this level requires all hands on deck - and a leader with a singular focus to move forward without issue.
Effective May 1st, Danielle Frye will be the series director. Danielle brings more than 15 years of motorsports marketing and public relations experience to USAC. Previously she worked for NASCAR as a Senior Manager of Communications, primarily in the competition department working directly with then NASCAR president Mike Helton. Prior to her work for the sanctioning body Frye was a publicist for NASCAR Hall of Fame drivers Bill Elliott and Dale Jarrett, and their respective sponsors. In addition to her communications work, Danielle worked with the Motor Racing Network (MRN) as a pit road reporter and NASCAR.com as a reporter alongside Marty Smith. She began her racing career as a college intern at Racing for Kids Magazine where she eventually was hired upon graduation. One of her assignments during her internship was covering the Eastern Grands in Toledo, OH. She grew up right outside of Talladega, Ala., where her fondness for all things fast began.
Danielle is more than qualified to manage the series, especially given the strengths of her team. Steve Kuhn is taking an elevated role within the series to assist Danielle with competition matters. Our tech team and tech process will remain constant. No other staff changes are taking place for the foreseeable future. Danielle is very eager and engaged and wants to promote all the things we love about this sport and making each USAC National event a lifetime memory for your children. We have a very cohesive team and with the benefit of Danielle’s racing network, we will be able to provide our kids with even more high-level exposure and opportunities through IndyCar and NASCAR partnerships.
