SATURDAY’S VICTORY KEEPS BURDETT IN POINT LEAD
The “Young Chevrolet 100” this Monday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah will give USAC Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car point leader Ryan Burdett a chance for a third consecutive win to begin the 2011 season.
Burdett has a 22-point lead over Paul Marconi entering Monday’s race, but two-time series titlist Jim Waters sits just 24 back in third in the most recent standings.
A third straight victory to start the season would not be a record, though. Jimmy Wysong holds that record, winning the first four races of 2006 on the way to the second of his three series championships.
Former USAC Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Champion Burdett, of West Jordan, Utah, is 2-for-2 after winning Saturday night's 30-lap feature. He passed Eric Barlow on lap 18 and led the rest of the way to beat fast qualifier Jim Waters, Barlow, Paul Marconi and Mel Andrus.
