USAC REGIONAL RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 5-6, 2020

WHOLESALE BATTERIES MIDWEST WINGLESS RACING ASSOCIATION SPRINT CARS

A Labor Day weekend two-fer awaits the USAC Midwest Wingless Racing Association Sprint Cars Saturday, Sept. 5 at I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo. and Sunday, Sept. 6 at Bethany (Mo.) Speedway.

Wyatt Burks (Topeka, Kans.) has won the last two at I-35 in July and August and has won five of the last six points races with the series overall.  Burks and one-time MWRA winner Don Droud Jr. are knotted up at the top of the standings entering the event.

Wesley Smith (Billings, Mo.), also a one-time series winner in 2020, took the victory at Bethany back in June and remains in title contention, just 20 points behind both Burks and Droud.

Pits open Saturday at I-35 at 4:30pm CT, with grandstands opening at 5pm, drivers meeting at 6pm, hot laps at 6:30pm and racing at 7pm.

Sunday at Bethany, pits open at 4:30pm CT, grandstands at 5:30pm, hot laps at 7:15pm and racing at 8pm.  E-Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Sport Mods and B-Modifieds are also on the event card.  General admission tickets are $20, seniors (62+) and military (w/ID) are $18 and kids 12 & younger are free.  Pit passes are $35 apiece.

RAPID TIRE EAST COAST SPRINT CARS

The Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars return to the first state this Saturday night, September 5, at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Dela.

Point leader, and two-time and defending champion, Steven Drevicki (Reading, Pa.) has won twice at Delaware Int’l in both 2018 and 2019.  Chris Allen Jr. (Wrightstown, N.J.) won there in 2019 and he resides in the second position in the series points entering Saturday’s race.

Gates open at 5pm ET with hot laps at 6:45pm.  General admission is $20, with ages 13 & under free.  Pit passes are $30 with ages 7-13 at $5 and ages 6 & under free.  Delaware Big Block Modifieds, AC Delco Modifieds, Rush Late Models, Mod-Lites and Super Trucks are also in on the action.

MIDWEST THUNDER SPEED2 MIDGETS:

USAC’s Midwest Thunder Midget series makes its debut run at Atomic Speedway in Waverly, Ohio this Saturday night, Sept. 5.

Three-time and defending champion Aaron Leffel (Springfield, Ohio) has won three of the last four series features, and Tod Creager of Brewhouse Drive Thru Racing team would like to see someone else take the win.  Creager has put up a $200 bounty payable to the driver who can defeat Leffel by taking the feature win.  In his three victories, Leffel has made the winning pass on lap 18, 14, and 16 of 20.

Chett Gehrke (Broken Arrow, Okla.) won the series’ last race in the state of Ohio more than years ago at Waynesfield.

Leffel’s teammate, Jacob Denney (Galloway, Ohio), holds a miniscule two-point lead in the standings over Adam Taylor (Dwight, Ill.) entering the event.

Pits open at 3pm ET, front gates at 4pm and hot laps at 6pm.  General admission is $15 while seniors are $12.  Pit passes are $30, with children age 6-10 $20 and children under age 6 are free.  Sprint Cars, UMP Modifieds, Sport Mods and Legends will also be on hand.

DMA SPEED2 MIDGETS

Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. signals a return to action for the USAC DMA SpeeD2 Midget series this Saturday night, September 5.

It’s been a back-and-forth year throughout the season, literally.  Through six races, Will Hull (Plainfield, Vt.) and Seth Carlson (Stafford, Conn.) have alternated victories going Hull-Carlson-Hull-Carlson-Hull-Carlson during the stretch.

Carlson holds command of the series standings entering the event by a health 63-point margin.

Pits open at 3pm ET with gates opening at 4pm and racing at 6pm.  General admission tickets are $12 with seniors age 62+ $10 and kids 11 & under $2.  Pit passes are $30 for members and $35 for non-members.  The night also features the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes, C.A. Miller Limited Late Models, Dirt Stockers and Peanut’s Auto LLC Four Cylinders Four Cylinder Madness.

ENGLER IMRA SPEED2 MIDGETS

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, September 6, the Engler IMRA SpeeD2 Midget series is back at its home base of Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill.

The track has produced five different feature winners throughout its first six IMRA events, with Cody Gerdes (Eureka, Ill.), Bryan Stanfill (Brea, Calif.), Shane Morgan (Creve Coeur, Ill.) and Will Armitage (Athens, Ill.) taking singular victories while point leader Andy Baugh (Mason City, Ill.) is the only two-time winner at The Spoon.

Pits open at Noon ET, gates at 3:30pm, hot laps at 6pm with racing to follow.  General admission is $25, with ages 10 and under free.  All pit passes are $40.  DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Pro Late Models, DIRTcar Hornets are also competing that night.

WESTERN STATES MIDGETS

This Sunday, September 6th, the cars and stars of the USAC Western States and BCRA (Bay Cities Racing Association) Midget Series will clash at Petaluma Speedway.

Promoted by Rick Faeth, the co-sanctioned special event / non-point race will also feature Dwarf Cars, 600 Micro Sprints, and Mini Stocks.

The Pit Gates will open at noon, the GRANDSTANDS ARE CLOSED, Practice starts at 5:00pm, and Racing at “The Fastest 3/8 Mile Dirt Oval in Northern California” will begin at 6:00pm. Sunday’s show will be the first of two “West Coast Stock Car / Motorsports Hall of Fame Challenge” races. Extra prize money will be up for grabs to the top-five drivers in points from the September 6th and October 24th events at Petaluma. The mini-series will pay $1,000-to-win, $700-for-2nd, $500-for-3rd, $350-for-4th, and $250-for-5th. To be eligible, racers must be members in good standing with either USAC or BCRA.

Points will be tallied using the USAC championship point schedule and ties will be broken by the October 24th qualifying times. If the October 24th show is cancelled, the prize money will be halved and awarded by the September 6th points. Ties are broken by qualifying results.
