HINES, COONS, CLAUSON TAKE INDIANA SPRINTS



Damion Gardner of Concord, Calif. continues to lead the 2010 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series standings with the “Billy Marvel Memorial” next on the schedule May 1 at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. Gardner finished third, eighth and 19th in the three Indiana races.


 


Saturday night's 30-lap victory by Jerry Coons Jr. in the Hoffman Auto Racing Sprinter at Lawrenceburg Speedway was the historic 75th victory in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car competition for the Milford, Ohio team. Jim Hemmings recorded the Hoffmans’ first win in 1961 at Salem, Ind. and in the ensuing years drivers Larry Cannon, Rich Vogler, Steve Butler, Robbie Stanley, Cary Faas, Kenny Irwin Jr., Andy Michner, Dave Darland, Brian Tyler, Tracy Hines, Jon Stanbrough, Daron Clayton and Coons have taken their cars to victory lane. Congratulations to the Dynamics, Inc./Hoffman Auto Racing Team for this significant milestone.


 


Coons, of Tucson, Ariz., led all 30 laps at Lawrenceburg. He was trailed at the checkered flag by Chris Windom, fast qualifier Jon Stanbrough, Brady Short and Robert Ballou.


 


Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. led the final 23 laps to win Friday night’s 30-lap USAC AMSOIL National Sprint car feature at the Gas City I-69 Speedway. Driving the MP Environmental Services Maxim/Shaver, Hines caught early leader Coons on lap eight and led the rest of the way to beat Stanbrough, fast qualifier Gardner, Levi Jones and Scotty Weir.


 


Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. caught Windom on the white-flag lap and went on to victory in Sunday night’s 30-lap USAC AMSOIL National Sprint race at the Kokomo Speedway. He trailed Windom for the first 28 laps in his Rotondo Weirich/Benic Enterprises Maxim/Gaerte Chevy, then led the last two laps around the quarter-mile dirt oval to beat Windom, Henry Clarke, Coons and Jones. Coons shaved Gardner’s point lead to just 12 points as Gardner finished 19th. The next AMSOIL National Sprint race is May 1 at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind.


 


The May 1 Putnamville race honors the memory of former USAC racer Billy Marvel, Jr., who lost his life at the track in 1983.
