SCHUTTE-FACCINTO USAC WESTERN MIDGET BATTLE RESUMES AT VENTURA

SEPTEMBER 11, 2018... This Saturday, September 15th, the Light Up The World USAC Western States Midget Series presented by CBD Living Water heads to Ventura Raceway. Promoted by Jim Naylor, the eighth point race and first of three appearances at the 1/5-mile oval will also showcase VRA Dwarf Cars, Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, and Focus Midgets. The Pit Gates will open at Noon, the Front Gates will open at 3:00pm, with Racing scheduled for 5:30pm at “The Best Little Dirt Track in America.”

Since May 24, 1986, 142 USAC Western States Midget events have been held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Sleepy Tripp claimed the inaugural victory and leads all drivers with eighteen Ventura wins. At press time, Johnny Cofer holds the 1-lap qualifying record of 11.675, set on November 18, 1995 and a complete series Ventura win list is at the bottom of this release.
Heading to Ventura, Alex Schutte (Redding, CA) holds a 28-point lead over the competition. Driving the Schutte/McElwee #28 Proficio / Aircraft Electrical Components Spike, Schutte scored fourth at Calistoga’s finale of the “Louie Vermeil Classic” on September 2nd. To date, the 2010 champion has two feature wins, five heat race victories, six top-10 finishes, and 43 feature laps led on the season. Alex has eight career series wins and will be looking for his first triumph at Ventura Raceway.
Michael Faccinto (Hanford, CA) ranks second in the chase for the championship. Piloting the Dodenhoff Motorsports’ #9D Lightning Medical / Rocket Sports & Entertainment Spike, Faccinto ran second to “Sugar” Shane Golobic at the “Louie Vermeil Classic.” At press time, the 2016 Louie Vermeil Classic Winner has two feature wins, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, two heat race victories, six top-10 finishes, and 29 feature laps led in the campaign. Michael seven career victories and will have his sights on his first win at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.
Robby Josett (Santa Clarita, CA) is third in the Light Up The World Beverages point standings. Racing the Dodenhoff Motorsports’ #9F Lightning Medical / Rocket Sports & Entertainment Spike, Josett placed fifth in the Calistoga finale. To date, Josett has one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one heat race victory, one Saldana Racing Products / Racing Optics Hard Charger Award, six top-10 finishes, and five feature laps led to his credit. Robby has four career USAC wins and will be looking to add another Ventura winning trophy to his collection.
Robert Dalby (Anaheim, CA) has risen to fourth in the championship point chase. Driving the family owned #4D R-D Spring & Stamping / Monster Seal Spike, Dalby scored sixth in the finale of the “Louie Vermeil Classic." At press time, the young driver has five top-10 finishes and 14 feature laps led on the season. This Saturday night, Robert will have his sights on earning the first USAC victory of his career.
David Prickett (Fresno, CA) has climbed to fifth USAC Western States Midget point standings. Piloting the Neverlift Motorsports’ #24X Crysalli Artesian Water / Mt. Rose Cocktail Mixes Spike, Prickett ran seventh at the Napa County Fairgrounds. To date, the 2012 Dirt Series Champion has one heat race victory, four top-10 finishes, and 12 feature laps led in the campaign. David has one career USAC victory and will be looking to gain valuable points with the Saturday night triumph.
Currently ninth in points, Kyle Beilman (Mar Vista, CA) leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. Daniel Anderson (Riverside, CA) is also in contention.
Among the other drivers expected to be in action are C.J. Sarna, Randi Pankratz, Frankie Guerrini, Shannon McQueen, Clayton Ruston, “Fireball” Maria Cofer, Dylan Ito, Bryan Drollinger, Jake Swanson, Ashley Hazelton-Heredia, Cody Swanson, and more.
