ROY COOK, JR.,1977 USAC NATIONAL MIDGET FEATURE WINNER, PASSES AWAY

Roy Cook, Jr., the Yucaipa, California native who raced his way into the USAC record books with a National Midget feature victory in March of 1977 for famed car owner Howard Linne, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017.  He was 78 years old.

Cook, known for his prowess on the pavement tracks, captured his lone USAC feature victory that day in a 50-lapper on the asphalt at Roseville, California’s All-American Speedway.

Cook was a star on the southern California midget scene where he racked up back-to-back United States Racing Club Midget championships in 1975 and 1976.  Back in the 1975 season, Cook finished as the runner-up to legendary seven-time USAC National Midget titlist Mel Kenyon at the “Turkey Night Grand Prix,” which that year was held for the sole time at Speedway 605 in Irwindale, California.

USAC extends its deepest condolences to Cook’s family and friends.
