USAC WEST COAST SPRINT DOUBLEHEADER DEBUTS AT TURKEY NIGHT THIS WEEK AT VENTURA
The USAC West Coast Sprint Cars make its debut as part of this week’s 76th running of the “Turkey Night Grand Prix” at California’s Ventura Raceway.
A pair of non-points special events featuring the 360 Sprint Car division are on the card at the one-fifth-mile dirt oval located on the beach on both Wednesday, Nov. 23 and Thursday, Nov. 24.
On Wednesday, the Sprint Cars will qualify, race heats and a 25-lap feature event. On Thursday, the Sprint Cars will return with semi-feature events and a 30-lap feature as a lead-in to the 50-plus expected entrants for the prestigious 98-lap race featuring the USAC National and Western States Midgets.
It’s the first time “Turkey Night” has hosted sprint cars as the undercard since the event returned to the dirt in 2012. The last such occasion for sprint cars at “Turkey Night” came back in 2011 when Tanner Swanson was victorious at the paved Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.
Brody Roa has already claimed the 2016 USAC West Coast Sprint Car championship, but is expected to be one of several drivers expected to compete in both night’s events at Ventura’s first West Coast Sprint series race since Jake Swanson’s victory in July of 2014.
Both Wednesday and Thursday night, the pit gates will open at noon, with the drivers meeting at 2:45pm. Cars are set to be on track at 3:30pm with racing scheduled for 5:30pm.
There will be an autograph session at the track during intermission on Wednesday night.
