FOUR-RACE USAC MIDGET “PENNSYLVANIA MIDGET WEEK” OPENS SUNDAY AT SUSQUEHANNA
Four races co-sanctioned by USAC and the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) comprise the upcoming “Pennsylvania Midget Week’ in the Keystone State.
It all starts Sunday, Aug. 14 at Susquehanna Speedway in York Haven, followed by Monday, Aug. 15th’s race at Path Valley Speedway Park in Spring Run. On Tuesday, Aug. 16, the series heads to Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown while the series concludes Wednesday, Aug. 17at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown.
Spencer Bayston (USAC National) and Alex Bright (ARDC) lead their respective series standings into the shootout between the two sanctioning bodies. Two of the venues will be new for USAC’s Midgets: Susquehanna and Lanco. Rico Abreu scored 2015 victories at Lincoln and Path Valley and Parnelli Jones was a 1964 winner at Lincoln Speedway.
Bayston holds a 35-point lead over Brady Bacon, with Chad Boat lurking in third place, just 39 behind the leader after his three victories last week in Fairbury, Neb. and Belleville, Kans. (twice). Tanner Thorson is fifth, 74 out of the lead. A total of nearly 300 points are up for grabs in the four-race series.
Bayston‘s lone 2016 victory came in the “Indiana Midget Week” opener at Gas City in June. Bacon continues to seek his initial 2016 USAC National Midget win despite “top-10” finishes in all but one race. Boat’s three recent victories, including the prestigious “Belleville Midget Nationals” last Saturday, joined a pair of thirds, a fourth and a fifth.
ARDC’s Alex Bright owns a 2016 victory at Lanco in April and Susquehanna in May, while Brenden Bright scored a pair of April wins and a June win at Susquehanna.
