CRA OFF UNTIL JULY 30 AT THE PAS; BERNAL & SHERIDAN TAKE FORD MOTORSPORTS TO A WEEKEND SWEEP
Richard Vander Weerd of Visalia, Calif. is the new point leader in the USAC/CRA AMSOIL Sprint Car standings after a pair of “top-10” finishes in races last week. He will take a 26-point lead over Brody Roa into a July 30 return to Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
Both Ryan Bernal and Danny Sheridan took car owner Keith Ford to victory lane last weekend after capturing wins in Santa Maria and Perris, Calif. respectively.
Bernal, of Hollister, Calif., made his 2016 USAC/CRA AMSOIL Sprint race debut a winning one Friday night, grabbing the 30-lap “Doug Fort Memorial” at Santa Maria Raceway in the Walker Filtration Systems/Sun Valley AG Transport Spike/Chevy. He passed Roa on lap nine and led the rest of the way to beat Damion Gardner, Roa, Austin Williams and Sheridan.
Sheridan, of Santa Maria, Calif., led the final 18 laps of Saturday night’s “Budweiser Firecracker 30” at Perris Auto Speedway. Sheridan took the lead on lap 13 when the top-two of Sussex and Gardner were involved in an accident. Sheridan held off teammate Bernal in a wild final lap in which both tagged the turn two wall, holding on to win the main event in the Walker Filtration Systems/Sun Valley AG Transport Spike/Chevy. Bernal was second Saturday ahead of Gardner from the tail, Vander Weerd and Mike Spencer.
