ROA, HODGES SET TO BREAK CRA TIE SATURDAY AT VENTURA
Saturday’s USAC/CRA AMSOIL Sprint Car race at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway offers a “shootout” for the series point lead between at least three drivers who are separated by just two points in the latest tally.
Recent Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway winner Josh Hodges is currently tied with Brody Roa atop the standings entering the race, while Richard Vander Weerd is just two points in arrears.
Vander Weerd prevailed in last year’s Ventura appearance and Roa was fourth. So far this year, Vander Weerd has a second and a fourth in two series starts, while Roa has a pair of thirds. Hodges debuted with a fourth at Perris before scoring a last-lap victory over Damion Gardner in the April 16 race at the PAS.
Gardner is only ninth in the standings after mechanical trouble in the March Perris opener and a heartbreaking loss to Hodges in the most recent race. Gardner finished 10th at Ventura last year but won the 2014 race at the track by the sea.
