WEST COAST SPRINTS AT SANTA MARIA, SOUTHWEST AT CANYON;

JOHNSON EXPANDS SOUTHWEST LEAD WITH QUEEN CREEK VICTORY

USAC’s West Coast and Southwest Sprint Cars continue their 2015 calendar this week. Danny Faria Jr. leads the West Coast Sprints to Santa Maria (Calif.) Raceway Saturday while Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. hosts Saturday’s Southwest Sprint race.

Point leader and defending champion R.J. Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz. led all but the first two laps of Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz. Charles Davis Jr. led the first two laps and took second ahead of Stevie Sussex, Matt Rossi and Josh Pelkey. Johnson’s point lead stands at 89 points over Davis.

Richard Vander Weerd is the most recent Santa Maria winner, having won the West Coast Sprint race there in April. Johnson owns three of the last four feature victories at Canyon.
