“POMBO/SARGENT CLASSIC” SATURDAY AT MADERA;

GOLOBIC WINS PLACERVILLE’S 30-LAPPER

Ronnie Gardner continues to lead the Honda USAC Western Midget Championship after finishing third in last Saturday’s 30-lapper at Placerville (Calif.) Speedway. The Western Pavement Midgets join with the BCRA Midgets for this Saturday night’s “Pombo Sargent Classic” at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway.

Shane Golobic of Fremont, Calif. led all but one lap of Saturday’s race at Placerville in Doug Bock’s Carson R & D/Astro Titanium Spike/Esslinger. Sean Dodenhoff led the first lap and finished second ahead of series point leader Gardner, Matt Streeter and Jake Swanson.

Gardner has a 23-point lead over Swanson in the latest dirt standings with the next dirt race June 15 at Petaluma (Calif.) Speedway.

Gardner’s lead in the overall Western Midget points also stands at 23 over Swanson going into the Madera race.
