CAMERON, EAGLE ON TAP FOR AMSOIL SPRINTS;
THOMAS TAKES GAS CITY, RAIN INTERRUPTS LINCOLN PARK
The AMSOIL USAC National Sprint cars head for mid-America this weekend to compete Friday at US 36 Raceway in Cameron, Mo. and Saturday in the “Rumble in the Bull Ring” at Eagle (Neb.) Raceway.
Chase Stockon of Sullivan, Ind. leads seven drivers separated by just 36 points going into the two races. Stockon finished 12th last Friday at Gas City, Ind. and technically shares the point lead with Hunter Schuerenberg, who was ninth at Gas City.
Kevin Thomas Jr. of Cullman, Ala. recorded his second consecutive series feature win Friday at Gas City I-69 Speedway. Driving the Rotondo Weirich/Black Jack Oil Maxim/Fisher, Thomas caught Robert Ballou on lap 23 and led the last eight laps for the win over fast qualifier and new track record holder Thomas Meseraull. Ballou took third ahead of Jerry Coons Jr. and Dave Darland.
Saturday night’s race at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. was interrupted by rain during the second heat race. Bryan Clauson was the B & W Auto Mart fastest qualifier.
Trailing Schuerenberg and Stockon in the standings are Clauson (three back), Brady Bacon (four back), Tracy Hines (10 back), Darland (21 back) and Thomas (36 behind).
Clauson won last year’s race at Eagle, while Levi Jones was the 2012 winner at Cameron.
