2-TIME HOOSIER HUNDRED CHAMP ELLIOTT GRAND MARSHAL OF SATURDAY’S “LITTLE HOOSIER 100”
Tony Elliott of Warsaw, Ind., the winner of the Hoosier Hundred USAC Championship race in 2000 and 2001 will serve as the Grand Marshal Saturday when the USAC Mopar .25 Midgets convene at Newton Park in Lakeville, Ind. for the second annual “Little Hoosier 100.”
Held in the park adjacent to the Hoosier Tire Company created by Hoosier founders Bob and Joyce Newton, Saturday’s event celebrates the rich history of the “Hoosier Hundred” while building its own tradition. Elliott will be on hand to meet and greet participants and the parents and to participate in festivities, including opening ceremonies.
In addition to his Hoosier Hundred triumphs, Elliott won 20 USAC Sprint car and nine USAC Midget races during his career and won USAC’s National Sprint Car Championship in 1998 and 2000.
Following a Thursday luncheon with Tony Stewart at the Newton Center and Thursday night’s 100-lap USAC Ford Focus race and accompanying USAC Regional Midget and Ford Focus Young Guns races at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway, activities at Newton Park will begin Friday with a tour of Hoosier Tire’s manufacturing facility at 8:30 am, followed by practice from 2-6 pm and a radio-controlled quarter-scale exhibition from 7-9..
Admission is free for Friday’s practice and Saturday and Sunday’s races with opening ceremonies slated at 9 am Saturday.
The “Little Hoosier 100” is round seven of the 2010 Generation Next Championship and class point leaders entering the Lakeville competition include: Neal Allison of Greensboro, NC.
