SPENCER BACK ON TOP AT PERRIS
Defending Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Champion Mike Spencer climbed to fourth in the new series standings as a result of his 30-lap feature victory Saturday night at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. He hopes to leap-frog National drivers Cole Whitt, Dave Darland and Jesse Hockett into the point lead when the series resumes April 25 at the PAS.
Spencer led all 30 laps of Saturday night’s race in his Grubstake Storage/Madera Produce Maxim Shaver, giving his Ron Chaffin Motorsports team their 100th career Sprint car triumph. David Cardey challenged during the closing laps but wound up second ahead of Danny Sheridan, Garrett Hansen and Greg Bragg.
The victory was Spencer’s seventh in USAC/CRA competition at Perris, tying him with Rip Williams for fourth on the list of winners since the series began in 2004.
