CALE COONS COMMANDS VICTORY AT MOLER
Williamsburg, Ohio (May 31, 2024)………Cale Coons came into Friday night’s USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midget round as the leader and left Williamsburg, Ohio’s Moler Raceway Park in much the same manner.
Championship points leader Coons (Greencastle, Ind.) took over the lead with just eight laps remaining to record his second career victory with the series and his first of the season.
Coons started third in the 25-lap feature, but trailed leader Bryce Massingill (Troy, Ohio) for the first 17 circuits of the event. On lap 18, Coons took over the top spot and led the balance of the distance, all while extending his point lead to nine ahead of Massingill.
Massingill took second in the final running order while Jakeb Boxell (Zanesville, Ind.) finished third. Stratton Briggs (Anna, Ohio), the 2022 series driving champion, crossed the line in fourth while Ryan Fleming (Troy, Ohio) rounded out the top-five.
