Since March 6, 2004, the Lake Perris Fairgrounds has held 246 AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car events and forty-three different drivers have claimed victory. “The Demon” Damion Gardner leads all drivers with 51 “home track” wins and this year’s races have been claimed by Justin Grant, Matt Mitchell, “Thunder” Tommy Malcolm, and Brody Roa. Nic Faas set the 1-lap track record of 15.833 on February 25, 2012 and the complete Perris USAC/CRA win list is at the end of this release.
“The Pride of Garden Grove” Brody Roa (Garden Grove, California) sits atop the standings with a commanding 117 point lead over the competition. Driving the Tom & Christy Dunkel / BR Performance owned #17R Inland Rigging / Dunkel Farms DRC, Roa has seven wins on the season, including the June 10th “Bubby Jones and Ray Scheetz Memorial” at Perris and Bakersfield’s “Richie McGowan Memorial” on June 24th. In addition, the 2019 USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Champion has one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, five heat race victories, one In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award, eleven top-10 finishes, and 163 feature laps led to his credit. With twenty career wins, Brody is tied with Tony Jones for fourth on the series win list and will be looking for another victory at Perris Auto Speedway.
Tommy “Thunder” Malcolm (Corona, California) ranks second in the point chase and is enjoying his best season on the circuit. Racing Dino Napier’s #5X Indiana Truck Salvage / B&B Powder Coating Maxim, Malcolm earned the first Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award of his career and scored seventh at Bakersfield on June 24th. At press time, the veteran driver also has two feature wins, four heat race victories, one Wilwood Disc Brakes Lucky 13 Award, one In Memory of Jim & Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award, ten top-10 finishes, and 64 feature laps led on the year. Tommy “Thunder” will have his sights on claiming another “home track” victory this Saturday night.
“The Big Game Hunter” Austin Williams (Yorba Linda, California) sits third in the USAC/CRA championship standings. Piloting the family owned #2 Digalert / Ramona Duck Club DRC, Williams charged from fifth to run second to Roa at Bakersfield’s “McGowan Memorial.” To date, the 2009 Co-Rookie of the Year has one heat race victory, one In Memory of Jim & Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award, nine top-10 finishes, and 32 feature laps led to his credit. With eleven career triumphs, Austin will be looking to earn his first win of the season at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.
“The Cadillac” Cody Williams (Corona, California) is fourth in the chase for the championship. The owner/driver of the #44 WC Friend Company / Trench Shoring DRC did not have a car ready for Bakersfield after his car was heavily damaged at Perris on June 10th. At press time, the former National Non-Wing Sprint Car Rookie of the Year has six Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, two heat race victories, and seven top-10 finishes on the season. “The Cadillac” has three career wins and will have his sights on returning to victory circle this Saturday night.
A.J. Bender (San Diego, California) ranks fifth in the USAC/CRA championship points. Racing the family owned #21 Bender Pool & Spa / GAS Chassis entry, Bender scored a third place finish at Bakersfield’s “McGowan Memorial.” To date, last season’s USAC Western States Midget Rookie of the Year has posted five heat race victories, one In Memory of Jim & Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award, and nine top-10 finishes to his credit. This Saturday night, Bender will be looking to earn the first USAC/CRA main event win of his career.
