BACON & GRANT TO DECIDE BUBBY JONES MASTER OF GOING FASTER TITLE AT PERRIS
By: Richie Murray – USAC Media
Perris, California (October 31, 2022)………It’s down to a two-horse contest in the race to become the inaugural Bubby Jones Master of Going Faster champion.
Brady Bacon and Justin Grant are separated by 19 points entering the miniseries’ finale this Saturday night, November 5, during the $20,000-to-win 26th running of the Heimark Anheuser Busch Budweiser Oval Nationals at California’s Perris Auto Speedway.
The 10-race series presented by Spire Sports + Entertainment for the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship culminates at the half-mile Perris dirt oval with the highest point-earner capturing a $10,000 bonus and a custom trophy provided by Potter Metal Art.
Bacon (Broken Arrow, Okla.) captured the Bubby Jones series opener back in May at Kansas’ Lakeside Speedway while Grant (Ione, Calif.) has won three features at Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway, Indiana’s Kokomo Speedway and Ohio’s Eldora Speedway.
The same two drivers are involved in a tight-knit battle for the overall USAC National Sprint Car driving title with Grant possessing an 83-point lead entering the final three nights of the season this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 3-4-5, at Perris in conjunction with the AMSOIL USAC CRA Sprint Cars.
Other feature winners thus far throughout the Bubby Jones Master of Going Faster slate include Robert Ballou (May 22 at Terre Haute), Logan Seavey (June 18 at Port Royal), Kyle Cummins (July 29 at Bloomington & October 1 at Lawrenceburg) and Jadon Rogers (September 17 at Tri-State Speedway).
Norman “Bubby“ Jones was a 27-time winner in USAC National competition during his National Sprint Car Hall of Fame career and also captured back-to-back CRA Sprint Car titles in 1983 and 1984. In 1996, Bubby served a role in the construction of Perris Auto Speedway, making this Saturday’s event a special place to crown the new champ.
Tickets for the 26th Annual Heimark Anheuser Busch Budweiser Oval Nationals are on sale online at www.perrisautospeedway.com or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For those who do not wish to buy tickets in advance, there will be tickets available for everyone at the ticket window all three nights.
In addition to the three nights of racing, there will be a practice for Oval Nationals entered cars on Wednesday, November 2. The practice will begin at 6pm Pacific and it will be free for fans in the grandstands. In addition, fans will be treated to $2 pizza, beer and soda.
