The son of former USAC Series Coordinator and Membership Director Jim Nell, James E. Nell III passed away today in Indianapolis, Ind. at the age of 61 following a bout with cancer. He spent the past three decades as a dedicated USAC official. He began in the early-1980s on the Observer crew at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and officiated as a pit steward in nearly every USAC racing series since. Most recently he served as a pit steward and registrar for USAC's Regional Midget Racing Series. In 2004 he was the recipient of USAC's coveted Ross Hadley Memorial Achievement Award for dedication to the United States Auto Club, presented by the USAC Winners Circle. A resident of Indianapolis, Ind. and employee of Bosma Enterprises, he was affectionately referred to by USAC participants and officials as "Jimmy Go." USAC extends its sympathies to his wife Brenda, his mother Patricia, sisters Susan Minor and Kelly Stone and brothers Michael and Patrick and his many friends in our sport. Visitation is scheduled Friday from 4-8 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm at Conkle Funeral home in Speedway, Ind. A service is planned Saturday at 1 pm.
