Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. led all but the first five laps of Thursday night's 40-lap USAC Western Sprint Car Series finale at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Hines put his Shaver Specialties/Barnes Oil Systems J & J/Shaver into the lead on lap six and led the rest of the way to beat Ryan Kaplan, Cole Whitt, JoJo Helberg and Nick Green. Kaplan led the first five laps. Tanner Swanson finished eighth and is the 2008 USAC Western Sprint Car Champion as a result. The race was halted on lap four when John Sarale flipped on the front stretch but he escaped injury.
