BURKS BESTS USAC MWRA FIELD AT U.S. 36

Osborn, Missouri (June 4, 2021)………Friday night at U.S. 36 Raceway, Topeka Kansas’ Wyatt Burks held off a stellar field of non-winged sprint car competitors to win his first USAC Wholesale Batteries Midwest Wingless Racing Association race of 2021.

Burks had previously won at Red Dirt in Meeker In Oklahoma’s USAC Sprint Series this year and had finished 3rd place at Double X Speedway in California, Mo. last Sunday night. For the “Sheriff” it was also his 8th career feature win in the series after 7 W’s in 2020.

The race Friday night would be hard fought throughout the pack with Battlefield, Missouri, driver Kory Schudy coming home second, for the second time in the three races conducted in MWRA competition in 2021 driving the JSR #28 of Jon Sawyer. While Edgerton, Kansas Chauffeur Mitchell Moore raced from 12th to 3rd, making his first podium for the MWRA in 2021.

After an accident on the front stretch at Double X Sunday, Spring Hill's Chad Goff would rebound nicely driving his red and white #9 to a 4th place finish at US 36, while Nixa’s Wesley Smith had a very eventful feature go racing the John Helm/WSR #12 to 5th place.

After earning high point honors following his exciting last turn, last lap heat win, Smith would roll a 3 sending him to the third row for the feature. Wesley from there worked his way up to second and was closing on Burks with two laps remaining when he tried a massive slider going into one. Unfortunately for Smith the effort failed, and he spun the white Helm/Smith effort. With three laps remaining after the restart Wesley would however work his way from the tail end to come home in 5th place.

Other MWRA racers on Friday night at the Osborn dirt track saw Gladstone’s Christopher Parkinson, Burks, Topeka’s Chris Morgan, and the before mentioned Smith take heat race wins.

While Tom Curran, Zack Clark, Chad Tye, Heath Murry, Tyler Burton, and Mark Lane would all advance to the 22 car A feature from the B. Olathe driver Clark would then move steadily thru the field going from 18th to finish 9th in the A main.

The MWRA will race again tonight at Bethany Speedway just up the road from US 36. And the program will also once again feature the winged 305 URSS Sprint Cars of Rick Salem. Friday night at Osborn, Wathena, Kansas driver Jay Russell would win that feature event.
