WAGNER WINS HOCKETT TRIBUTE RACE AT DOUBLE X

California, Missouri (May 30, 2021)………Sunday night at Double X Speedway, Lone Jack Mo. racer Jack Wagner won his first ever USAC Wholesale Batteries Midwest Wingless Racing Association Sprint Car feature at Double X Speedway in California, Mo.
Wagner held at bay Wesley Smith of Nixa, Mo., Wyatt Burks of Topeka, Kan. Quinton Benson of Sweet Springs, Mo. and Zach Daum of Pocahontas, Ill., who rounded out the top-five. Riley Kreisel, Tom Curran, Bradlee Ryun, Xavier Doney and Kory Schudy finished in positions 6th thru 10th in the 22-car feature event.
Wagner was a very popular winner on this night driving the JHR Hockett Racing No. 77 to the win in the Jesse Hockett Tribute Race which saw him pass Quinton Benson early in the feature on the bottom before later holding off spirited charges from Benson, and Wesley Smith, who marched through the field on the high side running the John Helm/WSR Racing No. 12 from 9th to 2nd.
Defending MWRA champion Wyatt Burks drove the family owned No. 11w to third place also running the high side around the Double X quarter mile while Riley Kreisel, the “Buzzsaw From Warsaw,” won the Hard Charger Award coming from 15th to 6th place, working the cushion from the back of the field.
In separate incidents during the 25-lap feature, Chris Parkinson and Chad Goff crashed on the front stretch. Both drivers were okay but, unfortunately, neither were able to restart. Later in the A feature, a spectacular wreck on the front stretch involving Cody Baker and Luke Howard led to both drivers walking away. Both cars were out of commission for the night.
Earlier in the program, which featured a 32-car field, Tyler Burton, Wagner, Curran and Doney won the four heat races with Cody Baker and Brad Wyatt taking twin B Feature victories.
The MWRA returns to action next Friday and Saturday night, June 4th and 5th, at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo. and at Bethany (Mo.) Speedway, respectively.
