MATT DURBIN INJURY UPDATE
Speedway, Indiana (August 31, 2020)………USAC's thoughts and prayers continue to be with driver Matt Durbin, of Stewardson, Ill., who was injured in a crash Saturday night during a USAC Illinois Midget Racing Association (IMRA) SpeeD2 Midget event at Macon (Ill.) Speedway.
To help aid Matt & his family during this time, you can donate directly to the USAC Benevolent Fund at www.usacbf.org/donate.
Matt’s father, Wayne, passed along this message earlier Tuesday, updating his condition:
“Currently in ICU at Decatur Memorial Hospital with c5 and c6 fractures. Placed on ventilator since Saturday evening. Still heavily medicated to control movement.
Has a severe brain injury. It’s not a 1 location injury, it is the complete brain bleed created by the inertia of the flipping and a sudden impact of the wall. Has been unconscious since the crash.
Neurologist states that there is a chance he could recover but it will take months to even years. We are going to give him the best chance to recover as possible.
Thank you to all the teams and people that helped Saturday evening. I cannot tell you who you are but just know it was well appreciated. The outpouring is great and all the competitors in IMRA are great.”
