USAC SPEED2 MIDGETS SLIDE INTO SPOON RIVER AND MONTPELIER SATURDAY
Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. and Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway are the venues for USAC Speed2 Midget racing this Saturday, July 21. The Engler IMRA Midgets compete at Spoon River and the Midwest Thunder Midgets take on Montpelier. Andy Baugh leads the IMRA standings and Aaron Leffel is atop the Midwest Thunder points.
Will Hull of Plainfield, Vt. led all but the opening lap to take Saturday night’s 25-lap USAC Laquerre’s Sports DMA Dpeed2 Midget race at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. He was followed by Derek O’Hearn, Adam Whitney, Jason Goff and Seth Carlson. The series continues July 28 at Bear Ridge.
Stratton Briggs of Anna, Ohio emerged the winner of Saturday night’s 25-lap USAC Midwest Thunder Speed2 Midget race at Montpelier Motor Speedway after Alex Watson’s car slowed on a restart at lap 23. Watson slipped to fifth in the finish behind runner-up Bill Dunham, Zach Guingrich and Jon Steed. Series leader Aaron Leffel finished eighth.
Adam Lemke of Hollister, Calif. led all 15 laps to win Friday night’s USAC Western Speed2 Midget feature at the Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif. Joey Iest was second ahead of Tyler Slay and series rookie James Prickett. The next series race is August 1 at Ventura Raceway.
Last Saturday’s Eastern Speed2 Midget race at Highland Rim Speedway in Ridgetop, Tenn. was cancelled. That series now prepares for an August 11 race at Carteret County Speedway in Swansboro, N.C.
Rain forced cancellation of Engler IMRA Speed2 Midget races last Saturday and Sunday night, respectively, at Spoon River Speedway and Quincy (Ill.) Raceways.
