SPOON RIVER, HUNTSVILLE, MERCED & MONTPELIER HOME OF SPEED2 MIDGET RACING THIS WEEK
Four venues host USAC Speed2 Midget races this coming week, encompassing, Illinois, Alabama, California and Indiana. Saturday night races are slated at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. (IMRA), Huntsville (Ala.) Speedway (Eastern), Merced (Calif.) Speedway (Western US Dirt) and Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway (Midwest Thunder Midgets).
Series point leaders include Jesse Love IV (Western US Overall) and Tom Paterson (Western US Dirt), Adam Taylor (IMRA), Nick Corea (Midwest Thunder) and George Kurtz (Eastern).
Dean Christensen of Granby, CT won Saturday night’s 20-lap USAC Speed2 DMA Midget race at Bear Ridge Speedway. Manny Dias, after leading 19 laps, finished second in Saturday’s race ahead of Adam Whitney, Andy Barrows and Jeff Horn. Adam Pierson, who was not in attendance, had his USAC record-tying 11-race winning streak in the series end.
Defending USAC Speed2 IMRA Midget Champ Jeff Mallonee of Davenport, Iowa won Saturday night’s 15-lap feature at 34 Raceway. He took the lead from Chase McDermand on lap seven and led the final nine laps for the win over Adam Taylor, Tyson Hart, Jeremy Hull and Dillon Morley.
Adam Lemke of Hollister, Calif. led all 30 laps to win Saturday night’s “Vukovich Classic” USAC Speed2 Western US Midget race at Madera Speedway. Fast qualifier Jesse Love IV finished second ahead of Annie Breidinger, Toni Breidinger and Joey Iest.
Chris Lamb of Colfax, N.C. won Saturday night’s 35-lap USAC Speed2 Eastern Midget race at East Carolina Motor Speedway. He took the lead from Bradley Riethmeyer on lap 24 and led the rest of the way to collect his record-extending 40th series win over George Kurtz, Jessica Bean, fast qualifier Riethmeyer and Jake Trainor.
Aaron Leffel of Springfield, Ohio captured Sunday night’s 20-lap “King of Kokomo” USAC Speed2 Midwest Thunder Midget feature at Kokomo Speedway. He passed Gunnar Lucius on lap 16 and led the final five laps to beat Nick Corea, Lucius, Tom Hessel and Chris Baue. Corea emerged as the new series point leader entering next Saturday’s race at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway.
Rain forced cancellation of Saturday’s Midwest Thunder special event race at Waynesfield (Ohio) Raceway Park.
