EASTERN MIDGET DOUBLE AT WILLIAMSTON AND HICKORY; IMRA ROARS AT 34

EASTERN MIDGET DOUBLE AT WILLIAMSTON AND HICKORY; IMRA ROARS AT 34

USAC Speed2 Midget racing occurs on two fronts this week. The Eastern series visits Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, S.C. Friday and returns to Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway Saturday after last weekend’s Hickory race. Burlington, Iowa’s 34 Raceway hosts the 2017 IMRA Speed2 points’ opener this Saturday.

Alex Watson of Columbus, Ohio won Saturday night’s 30-lap USAC Speed2 Midwest Thunder Midget opener at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway. He passed Korbyn Hayslett on lap 11 and led the rest of the way for the win to beat Nick Corea, Corey Bedwell, Aaron Leffel and Hayslett. The Midwest series resumes with a non-point “special event” May 6 at Waynesfield (OH) Raceway Park before the May 7 points race at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway.

George Kurtz of Brighton, Colo. led all 35 laps to win Saturday night’s USAC Eastern Midget Race at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway. Jessica Bean took second ahead of Nolan Allison, Sam Hatfield and Jagger Parker.
