USAC GULF COAST, MIDWEST THUNDER AND WESTERN US PAVEMENT MIDGETS BURST INTO ACTION THIS WEEK
A bevy of USAC Speed2 Midget racing in Texas, California and Indiana is on tap this weekend. The inaugural Gulf Coast campaign debuts Saturday at 281 Speedway in Stephenville, Texas. The Midwest Thunder Midgets kick off their 2017 series Saturday at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway. The Western US Pavement Series returns to Madera (Calif.) Speedway Saturday for the Pombo/Sargent Classic.
Gage Etgen is the defending champion of the Speed2 Midwest Thunder Series and Toni Breidinger won last year’s Speed 2 Western US pavement title.
Jessica Bean of Fairland, Ind. won Saturday night’s 35-lap USAC Speed2 Eastern Midget race at Orange County Speedway. She took the lead on lap eight and led the rest of the way. George Kurtz finished second ahead of Kyle Resco, Mick McFarland and Nolan Allison. Fast qualifier Chris Lamb led the first seven laps.
Adverse weather forced cancellation of last Sunday’s scheduled Speed2 Western US Midget race at Chowchilla (Calif.) Speedway.
