4 STRAIGHT NIGHTS OF ACTION FOR IMRA MIDGETS; ETGEN, BAUGH & PIERSON SCORE WINS
The IMRA Midgets face their biggest week of the season with four races in four nights on tap. The “D2 Midget Nationals” are scheduled for Thursday and Friday night, July 21-22 at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway. Saturday finds the series at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa while Sunday’s action can be found at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill.
Andy Baugh of Mason City, Ill. won Saturday night’s 20-lap USAC IMRA Midget race at Spoon River Speedway. He passed Dillon Morley on lap four and led the rest of the way to beat Morley, John Springer, Broc Hunnell and Brent Burrows. The win was Baugh’s fifth in eight 2016 starts.
Jeff Mallonee takes a 150-point lead over Jake Sollenberger into this week’s IMRA four events.
Gage Etgen of Celina, Ohio scored his fifth USAC Midwest Thunder Midget Series victory of the year Saturday night at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway. He passed Gunnar Lucius on lap 12 and led the final nine laps for the 20-lap win over Ty Tilton, Lucius, Bill Dunham and Nick Corea. Etgen continues to lead the standings entering an August 6 race at Waynesfield (Oh.) Raceway Park.
USAC DMA Midget point leader Adam Pierson scored an important “double points” victory in Saturday’s “Shirley & Mickey Bruleigh Memorial” at Bear Ridge Speedway. One of four different feature lap leaders, Pierson led the final eight after passing Ray Miller on lap 18. Sunn finished second ahead of Robert Tucker, Dean Christensen and Miller. The DMA Midgets resume action July 30 at Bear Ridge.
