IMRA BACK TO SPOON RIVER; DMA AT BEAR RIDGE; MTM TO WAYNESFIELD; BAUGH, BRUNS GRAB IMRA VICTORIES
USAC’s IMRA, DMA and Midwest Thunder Midget Series all see action this week with races in Illinois, Vermont and Ohio respectively.
Jeff Mallonee leads the IMRA Midgets back to Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. for “Kids Bicycle Races Night” Saturday after the series completed races last weekend at Spoon River and 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa. Mallonee has a comfortable 86-point lead over runner-up Bart Andrews.
Josh Sunn sits atop the USAC DMA Midget points, just six ahead of perennial power Adam Pierson entering Saturday’s “Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Night” race at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford Vt. where Sunn has captured both 2016 outings so far.
Gage Etgen is the leader in the Midwest Thunder Midget series, which visits Waynesfield (Ohio) Raceway Park Saturday. He is 12 points ahead of Alex Watson going into Saturday’s race.
Andy Baugh of Mason City, Ill. won Saturday night’s 15-lap USAC IMRA Midget race at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa on “Fleck Sales $5 Appreciation Night.” Baugh passed Mallonee on the seventh lap and led the final nine circuits to beat Mallonee, Gedd Ross, Brent Burrows and Ryan Jamison to the checkered flag.
Patrick Bruns of Champaign, Ill. won Sunday night’s 20-lap USAC IMRA Midget feature at Spoon River Speedway, leading the final 16 laps after passing Broc Hunnell on lap five. Mallonee took second ahead of Hunnell, Austin Archdale and Dillon Morley.
