WESTERN HPDs AT LEMOORE & VENTURA;

HAZELTON WINS “SHORT” BAKERSFIELD; KENLY CANCELLED

California races at Lemoore Raceway (Friday) and Ventura Raceway (Saturday) are on tap this week for USAC’s Western HPD series. Cody Jessop (overall) and Shawn Buckley (dirt) are the respective point leaders in the standings entering this week’s activity.

Defending USAC Western HPD Dirt Champion Ashley Hazelton of Chatsworth, Calif. won Saturday night’s accident-shortened feature at Bakersfield Speedway. She led all 16 laps before a tangle and ensuing fire forced suspension and completion of the race, with no driver injuries. Mike Leach took second ahead of Tom Paterson, Jesse Love IV and Daniel Anderson.

Inclement weather forced cancellation of last Saturday’s scheduled Eastern HPD Midget race at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, N.C. The Eastern series resumes October 18 at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C.
