HPDs OFF UNTIL MAY 15 AT VISALIA;
LAMB, STICKLE & McCARTHY EARN VICTORIES
USAC’s HPD Midget series, coming off a busy week in which all three series competed, are idle this week awaiting a May 15 Western race at Keller Auto Speedway at Plaza Park in Visalia, Calif.
Tommy McCarthy of Mountain View, Calif. scored a pair of feature wins during Saturday night’s “Vukovich Classic” at Madera (Calif.) Speedway. He won the 30-lap USAC Western HPD Midget main and the accompanying 15-lap Restricted HPD feature as well. In the HPD finale, he passed Toni Breidinger on lap 15 and led the rest of the way to beat Cody Jessop, Annie Breidinger, Dylan Nobile and Tom Paterson. He led all the way to win the Restricted feature over Jessop, Jesse Love IV, Ethan Lesser and Blake Brannon.
Jacob Stickle of Xenia, Ohio won Friday night’s 20-lap USAC Midwest HPD Midget opener at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway. He took the lead from Jacob Taylor on lap four and led the rest of the way in his Kreider Corporation/Willie’s Sport Bar & Grill Hawk/Focus. Alex Watson took second ahead of Leffel and Taylor.
Saturday night’s scheduled Midwest race at DeGraff, Ohio was postponed with track and USAC officials discussing a possible rescheduling later in the season. The next Midwest event is June 6 at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio.
Chris Lamb of Colfax, N.C. won Saturday night’s 35-lap USAC Eastern HPD Midget race at Franklin County Speedway. He passed Scott Hunter on lap five and led the rest of the way to beat Hunter, Jessica Bean, Calvin Carroll and Kyle Craker. Friday night’s Eastern race at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C. was rained out.
The Eastern series resumes action June 5 at Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, N.C.
