BUCKLEY WINS 2 WESTERN HPD TITLES AT LAS VEGAS;
JESSOP & KELLEY TAKE FINAL HPD FEATURES AT MADERA, LVMS
Shawn Buckley of Simi Valley, Calif. completed his drive to championships in USAC’s Western HPD overall and pavement series Saturday at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Bullring. He led the first 24 laps of Saturday night’s finale and finished second behind race winner Jeff Kelley.
Kelley, of Eden, Utah, led the last six laps to beat Buckley, Jim Waters, Christine Breckenridge and Michael Daniels. Kelley’s victory marked the first win by a Honda engine in Western HPD competition.
Cody Jessop of Madera, Calif. won Friday night’s 30-lap USAC Western HPD Midget race at his home track – Madera Speedway. The race was a special “non-points” race and Jessop passed Dylan Nobile on lap 28 and led the last three laps to beat Nobile, Duke Love, Tom Paterson and Tommy McCarthy.
