A half-dozen USAC HPD Midget races are sprinkled this week through North Carolina, California and Washington.
Scott Hunter leads the Eastern series to races Friday at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C. and Saturday at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway. Ashley Hazelton sits atop the Western Dirt series which prepares for Saturday’s race at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway and Sunday’s race at the Chowchilla (Calif.) Raceway. A pair of “special event” Friday and Saturday races at Deming (Wash.) Speedway will not affect Chase Goetz’s Washington HPD point lead.
Austin Nemire of Toledo, Ohio wrapped up the 2014 USAC Midwest HPD Pavement title with a pair of point-rich 20-lap “double points” feature wins in the “Fall Nationals” at Columbus Motor Speedway Saturday night. He passed Austin Harris on lap 14 and led the final seven laps in the opener and then passed Jacob Stickle on lap 12 and led to the finish in the 20-lap nightcap. Adam Thomason was second in both races, while Harris had a third and fifth; Stickle was fourth and third and Anthony McCune had a fifth and fourth.
Goetz, of Snohomish, Wash., scored his ninth Washington win of the season and fourth in a row Saturday night at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash. He led all 25 laps to beat Lance Sargent, Tristin Thomas, Hannah Lindquist and Michael Vollbrecht.
Toni Briedinger of Hillsboro, Calif. scored her first USAC Western HPD Midget win in Saturday night’s 30-lap “Harvest Classic” feature at Madera Speedway. She led all 30 laps to beat Dylan Nobile, Cody Jessop, Christine Breckenridge and Tom Paterson.
