HPDs IN ACTION IN WASHINGTON & CALIFORNIA;
PATERSON, BUCKLEY TAKE LVMS FEATURES; SPEEDROME CANCELLED
Washington and California host USAC HPD Midget events this week, with drivers Chase Goetz (Washington), Shawn Buckley and Ashley Hazelton (Western) atop the latest series standings.
Goetz leads the Washington contingent to Saturday’s race at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon. Buckley (overall) and Hazelton (dirt) will try to protect respective leads in the Western series as it visits Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway Saturday.
Tom Paterson of San Martin, Calif. scored his initial USAC feature victory Saturday night in the 30-lap USAC Western HPD Midget race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway’s Bullring. He passed Buckley on lap 10 and led the rest of the way to beat Christine Breckenridge, Jeff Kelley, Buckley and Toni Breidinger.
Buckley, of Simi Valley, Calif., led all 30 laps to win Sunday night’s feature at LVMS. Kelley took second ahead of Breckenridge, Toni Breidinger and Paterson.
Last Saturday night’s Midwest Pavement HPD Midget race at the Indianapolis (Ind.) Speedrome was cancelled.
