2 AT GRAYS HARBOR & 1 AT KALAMAZOO FOR HPDs;
TRISTIN THOMAS, JESSOP NAP FEATURE WINS
Two nights of racing at Elma, Wash. and a race at Kalamazoo Mich. spotlight this week’s USAC HPD Midget racing. The Washington series convenes Friday and Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway and the Midwest Pavement series competes at Kalamazoo Speedway as part of a “doubleheader” also featuring the Honda USAC Pavement Midgets. Friday’s race at Elma, Wash. is a “special event” and does not afford Washington series points.
Cody Jessop of Los Banos, Calif. won USAC’s Western HPD Midget feature Saturday night at Madera (Calif.) Speedway. The 15-lap "restricted" feature went to Joel Rayborne. In the 30-lap HPD main Jessop passed Shawn Buckley on lap three and led the rest of the way to beat Dylan Nobile, Annie Breidinger, Tom Patterson and Toni Breidinger. Joel Rayborne was trailed by Jesse James Burks and Jessop in the restricted race.
Tristin Thomas of Burlington, Wash. led all 30 laps to win Saturday night’s USAC Washington HPD Midget race at Sunset Speedway in Banks, Ore. Fast qualifier Dougie James took second ahead of Lance Hallmark, Garrett Thomas and Michael Vollbrecht. The victory was his second in a row in the series.
