PAVEMENT HPD MIDGET “50” AT LAKE HAVASU SATURDAY;
WET GROUNDS FORCE CHOWCHILLA CANCELLATION
Defending HPD USAC Pavement Midget Champion Bryant Dawson of Phoenix, Ariz. leads the series to round two Saturday at Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Saturday’s feature will be a 50-lapper, making it one of the longest races of the season.
Dawson won last year’s Lake Havasu opener and notched five wins and five seconds on his way to the 2013 title. He also won this year’s series opener at Blythe, Calif. February 8.
Shawn Buckley, who sits third in the current series points, took third at Lake Havasu a year ago.
Rains and wet grounds forced cancellation of Sunday’s dirt race at Chowchilla (Calif.) Speedway. It marked the fourth time in nine years that wet grounds have forced a USAC cancellation at Chowchilla.
USAC officials and race organizers at Havasu 95 have decided to postpone Saturday’s originally-scheduled Honda Western Midget Pavement irace n lieu of a fall race at the Arizona oval. “We feel this is in the best interests of the series competitors and fans in order to insure a competitive field of participants,” says USAC Western Chief Steward Dave Lewis.
