IGNITES TO XENIA, COLUMBUS & LAS VEGAS;
ALFREY TAKES 2, BIGGS GETS 1ST, ELLIOTT WINS TOO
USAC’s Eastern and Midwestern Honda Ignite Midget series combine for a pair of races in Ohio this weekend. Friday’s race is at Kik-Kare Raceway in Xenia and Saturday’s race is at the Columbus Motor Speedway. Chris Lamb stands at the top of the standings entering the two events.
The Honda USAC Western Pavement Ignite Midgets compete Saturday night at the Bullring at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. Bryant Dawson is undefeated in three previous events there and is the series point leader as a result.
Toby Alfrey, Cory Elliott and Ariel Biggs recorded Honda USAC Ignite Midget wins last week. Alfrey, of Miamisburg, Ohio, won Midwest Dirt races Friday at Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway and Saturday night at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway. Biggs, of Elma, Wash., recorded her initial Washington Dirt race Saturday night at Skagit Speedway in Alger. Elliott, of Bakersfield, Calif., scored in the Western Dirt series at Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway.
Alfrey passed Stratton Briggs on lap 10 and led to the checkered flag at Gas City to beat Katlynn Leer, Briggs, Joey Greening and Gage Walker. At Montpelier he passed Walker on lap 17 and led the final nine laps to beat Walker, Briggs, Cooper Clouse and John Heydenreich.
Biggs earned her initial USAC feature victory Saturday at Skagit, leading all 20 laps of the Honda USAC Washington Ignite Dirt race. Robby Vaughn took second ahead of Robbie Price, Garrett Thomas and Chase Goetz. Biggs won the Elma Auto Racing Hall of Fame Fast Time Award, while Vaughn was the SPEEDMART hard charger and Price was the NWSPRINTCARHISTORY.com Rookie of the race. The Washington series resumes June 22 at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma.
Elliott led the final 14 laps to win Saturday night’s 20-lap Honda USAC Western Ignite Dirt feature at Santa Maria Speedway. Jarid Blondel led two laps and finished second ahead of Brennan Rogers, Clayton Ruston and Christine Breckenridge, who led the first four laps of the race.
