EASTERN IGNITES CLOSE AT ACE SATURDAY; IRVAN, LAMB TOPS IN EAST; GOETZ #1 IN OREGON, PETERSON CHAMP; GARRETT 11-FOR 12 AT STOCKTON, BOWERS WINS TOO
Three USAC Ignite Midget venues featured five different winners last Saturday and this week’s activity closes one of this year’s series.The Eastern Ignite Series competed at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C. Saturday and the series returns to Ace Speedway with twin features this Saturday for its final events.
Series point leader Jared Irvan of Midland, N.C. won the first 25-lap feature Saturday, while Chris Lamb of Colfax, N.C. won the 25-lap nightcap. Expected adverse weather conditions forced cancellation of Sunday’s Ace program.
Lamb led the first 17 laps of the opener before Irvan led the final eight. Tyler Corriher led the first 19 laps of the second race, Irvan led one and Lamb the rest. Ryan Krachun finished second in the opener ahead of Nic Davidson, Corriher and Matt Lundstrom. Lamb was trailed in the finale by Irvan, Corriher, Krachun and Davidson.
Chase Goetz of Snohomish , Wash. won Saturday night’s 25-lap Northwest Ignite Midget finale at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon. Goetz led all but two laps of the race to beat series champion Jared Peterson, Garrett Thomas, Madison Hess and Garret Johnson.
The final races of this year’s Western North Ignite Midget series unfolded Saturday at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway. Ricky Bowers of Mentor, Ohio and Garrett Peterson of West Sacramento, Calif. won the 30-lap main events.
Peterson led the first 19 laps of the opener but finished second to Bowers. In the second race, Peterson led the final 25 laps for the win, his 11th in 12 Stockton races this year! Molly Helmuth, Tyler Edwards and Shawn Buckley rounded out the top-five behind Bowers and Peterson, while Edwards was second in the finale ahead of Cole Glasson, Bowers and Helmuth.
