INDY SPEEDROME & LAS VEGAS HOST FOCUSES

IRVAN, HUNTER, WATERS, HUNT, WALMER, CUSTER, PANKRATZ WIN

The Bryant Heating & Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome and Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway’s Bullring will host USAC Ford Focus races this week as the battle for series championships continues.

Wednesday night’s Speedrome “tripleheader” (also featuring the Mopar D1 Midgets) includes both the Midwest Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns, while both the Western Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns will be in action at Las Vegas.

The Speedrome event opens the 2011 USAC Midwest campaign. At Las Vegas, Jessica Clark (Ford Focus) and Trevor Hunt (Focus Young Guns) will try to maintain their respective point leads.

Jared Irvan, Scott Hunter, Jim Waters, Trevor Hunt, Keegan Walmer, Cole Custer and Wally Pankratz all claimed victories in USAC Ford Focus action last week.

Hunter, of Concord, N.C., and Irvan, of Midland, N.C., scored USAC feature victories at Concord (N.C.) Speedway Saturday night. Hunter passed Nick Drake on the 40th lap and led the final 36 laps of the longest race in Eastern Ford Focus history (75 laps). Series point leader Jarett Andretti took second ahead of Drake, who led the first 39 laps, Rick Fedrizzi and Austin Prock. In the accompanying 35-lap Focus Young Guns main event, Irvan, son of former NASCAR star Ernie Irvan, led all the way to beat Brendon Bock, Trey Hutchens and Mikell McGee. Irvan is a graduate of USAC’s Mopar .25 Midget series

Waters, of Salt Lake City, Utah, led all 25 laps to win Saturday night's Utah Ford Focus feature at Rocky Mountain Raceways. Defending series champion Michael Daniels finished second ahead of Austin Luttmer, fast qualifier Chuck Groat and Jeff Kelley

Walmer, of Portland, Ore., and Hunt, of Liberty, Mo., shared victory lane Saturday night at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway. Walmer survived a spectacular duel with Kyle Bailey to post the win over Bailey, Garrett Peterson, James Eden and fast qualifier Jessica Clark. In the feature there were eight lead changes. Hunt led all 20 laps to beat Kyle Bailey and James Eden to the flag in the Focus Young Guns main event.

Pankratz, of Orange, Calif., and Custer, of Kannapolis, N.C., were victorious in USAC Ford Focus racing at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway Saturday night. Custer led all 20 laps of the Focus Young Guns feature to beat Pankratz, Parker Colston and Christine Breckenridge. Pankratz trailed Tyler Dolacki for 13 laps in the Ford Focus feature before moving to the front for the final seven laps. Tyler and Robert Dolacki claimed second and third, while Daniel Williams and Jet Davison rounded out the "top-five.” Custer led all 20 laps of the Focus Young Guns race to beat Daniel Williams, Parker Colston and Christine Breckenridge to the flag.
