FOCUSES VISIT PLYMOUTH, TWIN CITIES, MADERA & GRUNDY COUNTY;

WINS FOR LIGUORI, FRANKOSKI, DODENHOFF, POSEY, COTTONGIM & SIMUNOVICH


USAC Ford Focus competition is scheduled this week in Indiana, Illinois and California. Plymouth Speedway and Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon host Indiana races Wednesday and Thursday, while Saturday races are slated at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. and Madera (Calif.) Speedway.


 


Joe Liguori of Tampa, Fla. is atop the current Midwest and UMARA standings entering the Indiana races, while Nick Romano of Atherton, Calif. leads the California Pavement contingent to Madera. USAC’s Utah Ford Focus Series, led by Kipp Posey of Lehi, Utah, is off until June 20 at Salt Lake City, while the next race for the Carolina Series, led by Jeremy Frankoski of Huntersville, N.C. is set June 17 at Concord (N.C.) Motor Speedway.


 


Liguori paced all 30 laps in his C & R Racing Beast to win Friday’s feature race at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway over Tyler Cottongim, Adam Wilsdon, Zach Kanizer and Katie Hargitt.


 


Frankoski extended his lead in the Carolina standings Saturday night, winning the 35-lap feature event at Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway. Piloting the Tracy Trotter Calico Coatings machine, Frankoski took the lead from Michael Sboro on the 17th lap and led the rest of the way to beat Sboro, Scott Hunter, Steven Intravaia and Shane MacMillan. Intravaia led the first two laps and Sboro the next 14 before yielding to Frankoski.


 


Sean-Mikael Dodenhoff of Bakersfield, Calif. led all 20 laps to win Saturday night’s USAC California Dirt Ford Focus feature at the Ventura Raceway. Trailing him to the checkered flag were Nick Carlson, Brody Roa, Jet Davison and Eric Gunderson. Dodenhoff leads the series standings into a July 4 race at Perris, Calif.


 


Posey grabbed the checkered flag Saturday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways in the Utah capital, winning the 25-lap USAC Utah Ford Focus race. He passed James Powell on lap 15 and led the rest of the way after Powell scraped the wall on the frontstretch. Fast qualifier Chuck Groat finished second ahead of Gregg Fuette, Michael Daniels and Austin Luttmer.


 


Tyler Cottongim of Avon, Ind. led all 25 laps to win Saturday night’s Midwest/UMARA race at Grundy County Speedway, part of the track’s “Salute to Mel Kenyon.” Trailing Cottongim’s O’Kelly’s Restaurant Equipment/Detro Trailer Sales Stealth at the checkered flag were fast qualifier Liguori, Jimmy Simpson, Tanner Whitten and Tyler Trainor.


 


Dennis Simunovich of Hollister, Calif. won Saturday night’s 20-lap USAC Junior Ford Focus feature at Ventura Raceway, leading the final six laps after passing series point leader Kyle Edwards on lap 15. Alex Jacobsen finished second ahead of Casey Martinez, Ethan Quinn and Edwards. Martinez led the first four laps and Edwards led 10. The Junior Focuses return to Ventura June 27.
