HAMILTON TAKES NATIONAL PAVEMENT FOCUS TITLE; MURRAY #1 IN JUNIORS
Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway hosts the USAC California Pavement Ford Focuses Saturday, while the Carolina Focus series visits Dillon (S.C.) Motor Speedway Saturday. The USAC Junior Ford Focuses are also in action Saturday at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.
Kyle Hamilton of Danville, Ind. came from fourth place in the closing laps to take the lead from Steven Intravaia and win Saturday night’s 30-lap USAC Pavement Ford Focus National Championship feature at the Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway. The win gave Hamilton his fifth USAC driving title, a feat surpassed by only seven drivers in USAC history! Hamilton was the fastest qualifier and started sixth in the Lucas Oil Beast. Intravaia finished second ahead of Joe Liguori, Jimmy Simpson and Zach Kanizer. Liguori put the final touches on his second USAC championship, winning the 2009 Midwest Ford Focus title.
The 2009 USAC National Dirt Ford Focus Championship will be contested at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway November 14.
Andrew Murray of Temecula, Calif. led all but the first lap to win Saturday night’s 20-lap USAC Junior Ford Focus race at the All American Speedway. Murray passed Brandon White on lap two and led the rest of the way to beat series point leader Kyle Edwards, White, Keegan Walmer and Dennis Simunovich. Murray was also the fastest qualifier and won the dash. The Junior Focuses continue their 2009 campaign this Saturday at Ventura.
Nic Romano of Atherton, Calif. leads the California Pavement Focuses to Stockton Saturday and Jeremy Frankoski of Huntersville, N.C. leads the Carolina Focuses to Dillon.
