4 STATES HOST FOCUS, YOUNG GUNS RACES THIS WEEK

CARLSON, BLONDEL TAKE “CALIFORNIA FOCUS WEEK” TITLES


Five venues in North Carolina, Indiana, Utah and California host USAC Ford Focus racing this week. The Eastern and Carolina Ford Focus and Carolina Focus Young Guns race Wednesday night at Concord (N.C.) Speedway. The Midwest Ford Focuses and Focus Young Guns will compete in Indiana on the dirt at Gas City I-69 Speedway Friday and Montpelier Motor Speedway Saturday, The Western/Utah series is in action Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City and the Western Pavement Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns are at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif. Saturday.


 


Nick Carlson of Norwalk, Calif. and Jarid Blondel of Orange, Calif. are the 2010 USAC “California Focus Week” Champions following the final three-race series events at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif. Saturday night. Carlson led all 20 laps to win the Ford Focus feature over Kyle Edwards, Andrew Murray, Jake Blackhurst and Jet Davison. Blondel led all 20 laps to win the Focus Young Guns feature over Casey Martinez and Alex Jacobsen.


 


Jeremy McKenna of Salt Lake City, Utah scored his first USAC feature victory Saturday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways in the Utah capital, leading the final 16 laps of the 20-lap race after passing Guy Sainsbury on lap five. Gregg Fuette finished second ahead of Austin Luttmer, Ron Duncombe and J.R. Williams.


 


Jake Blackhurst of Mapleton, Ill. and Collin Henry of Ventura, Calif. captured USAC Ford Focus wins Wednesday night at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. Blackhurst led all 20 laps to take the USAC Western Ford Focus feature over Cody Kershaw, Nick Carlson, Wally Pankratz and Bruce Douglas. In the accompanying 20-lap Focus Young Guns feature, Henry scored his initial USAC win, leading all 20 laps to beat Jarid Blondel, Alex Jacobsen, Blackhurst and Daniel Williams.


 


Justin Hommel of Canyon Lake, Calif. and Austin Prock of Avon, Ind. ended up in victory lane at Concord (N.C.) Speedway last Wednesday night as winners of USAC Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns features respectively. Hommel led all 40 laps to beat Alex Bowman, Scott Hunter, Nick Drake and Tyler Corriher in the Eastern/Carolina Ford Focus race, while Prock outran Jesse Little, Brendon Bock and Adam Brown in the Young Guns 25-lapper. Prock led the opening lap, Bock led the next two, then Prock led the final 22 laps for the win.
