USAC STAT BOOK: NOS ENERGY DRINK NATIONAL MIDGETS – 9/3/2019
Speedway, Indiana (September 3, 2019)………USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets head to the racing capital of the world for a true biggie, the Driven2SaveLives BC39 powered by NOS Energy Drink at The Dirt Track at IMS Sept. 4-5.
Entering the second edition of the event, Tyler Courtney remains the series leader in terms of driver points, feature wins (6), laps led (170), top-fives (14) and fast qualifying times (5) in 21 starts. His team, the Clauson/Marshall Racing No. 7BC sits atop the owner standings while fellow CMR pilot Chris Windom leads all drivers with 20 top-ten finishes, only once finishing outside the top-ten.
Both are looking to make their second appearance at the BC39 after finishes of 4th by Courtney and 12th by Windom in last year’s main event. Those two, who stand first and second in series points, along with the likes of Logan Seavey, Zeb Wise, Kevin Thomas, Jr., Chad Boat, Jerry Coons, Jr. and others made up the bulk of talent-laden USAC Midget fields at every race throughout the season.
However, the BC39 is one of those events that brings in several non-regulars with the series who are aiming for the $15,000 prize and the glory of winning at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including drivers Conor Daly (Noblesville, Ind.), J.J. Yeley (Phoenix, Ariz.), Kyle Larson (Elk Grove, Calif.), Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (Olive Branch, Miss.), Chase Briscoe (Mitchell, Ind.), Christopher Bell (Norman, Okla.), Spencer Bayston (Lebanon, Ind.), Michael Pickens (Auckland, N.Z.) and several others who don’t get compete in the majority of USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget events, thus creating an extra element of challenges.
That’s what makes this race special, talent everywhere competing at the most famous racing facility in the world.
2018 BC39 FINISH: (Starting Position in Parentheses) 1. Brady Bacon (7), 2. Chad Boat (10), 3. Kevin Thomas, Jr. (1), 4. Tyler Courtney (2), 5. Christopher Bell (17), 6. Alex Bright (8), 7. Justin Grant (6), 8. Holly Shelton (9), 9. Jerry Coons, Jr. (5), 10. Ryan Robinson (3), 11. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (11), 12. Chris Windom (22), 13. Logan Seavey (23), 14. Zeb Wise (14), 15. On track action for the BC39 begins Wednesday, Sept. 4, beginning with the drivers meeting in the IMS Media Room at 2pm. Public gates open at 3pm with cars hitting the track for practice at 5pm, followed by opening ceremonies at 6:30pm. Heat races and the Stoops Pursuit race will conclude the night’s racing action.
The finale, on Thursday, Sept. 5, will have the public gates opening at 3pm and cars on track for practice at 4:30pm, with qualifying races to follow at 5:30pm. Opening ceremonies are slated for 7pm and immediately followed by the main feature events, starting with multiple D-Mains, C-Main, the semi-feature and the 39-lap main event.
Spectator tickets and any competitors still looking to buy seats in the competitor section can purchase through www.ims.com/usac.
The BC39 officially gets underway on Tuesday, Sept. 3 with team parking at noon. From 4-6pm, catch five USAC icons at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum’s USAC Stars: From the Dirt Track to the Brickyard series. The event will feature legends Don and Mel Kenyon, and current drivers Michael Pickens, Chris Windom and Chad Boat. Pat Sullivan, longtime USAC public address announcer, historian, and author, will emcee this evening of entertaining banter and thrilling stories.
Tickets are available to Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum members for $15 and non-members for $20. Limited seating. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Following the event, make your way to USAC headquarters, just across the street from the IMS Administration office at 4910 W. 16th Street, for the BC39 Draft Party from 5:30pm to 8:30pm Eastern where drivers will draw for their heat race positions. All cars entered will be randomized into a draft order for the heat race draft. Teams will be able to pick their heat race spot, either in person with a representative, or remotely through USAC officials. Any unrepresented team will be given the first available spot. The heat race position draft is open to the public with team members getting priority into the new USAC worldwide headquarters. Food and beverages will be available.
