BRUCE ROBEY, 1976 SPEEDROME USAC MIDGET WINNER, PASSES

Speedway, Indiana (August 5, 2019)………Bruce Robey, a one-time winner in USAC’s National Midget division during the 1976 season, passed away on July 31, 2019.  He was 68 years old.

Robey, of Hilliard, Ohio, captured his lone USAC nationally sanctioned feature victory on the 1/5-mile paved oval at the Indianapolis Speedrome in May of 1976 aboard Carl Horton’s No. 64.

Additionally, Robey made 15 career USAC National Sprint Car starts between his first in 1981 at Ft. Wayne, Indiana’s Baer Field Raceway until his last appearance during the 1992 season.  Robey had his most memorable results with the series on the high banks of Indiana’s Winchester Speedway, finishing in the top-five for the first time in the 1990 “Sammy Sessions Memorial” finale with a 5^th.

Robey recorded his two best series finishes at the first two editions of the “Rich Vogler Classic” at Winchester, finishing 3^rd in the inaugural in 1991 and 3^rd again the following year in 1992.

Robey was also a prominent figure in super modified racing, winning the 1987 track championship at Ohio’s Sandusky Motor Speedway.
