BOB CASSADAY PASSES AT 91
Bob Cassaday, who served for 18 years as USAC’s Office Manager and as a Vice-President and Director of Administration and USAC’s Assistant Secretary, has passed away in Speedway, Ind. at the age of 91.
Employed for many years by Firestone Tire and for nine years as manager of its Indianapolis-based racing division, Bob joined USAC in 1978 and as the Chief Registrar for the Indianapolis 500 was one of four Steward’s who annually administered the race.
A former policeman in the city of Speedway, he also served as its commissioner. A recipient of numerous awards throughout his motorsports career, Bob more recently was heavily involved in the Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers and as a past President became its Chairman Emeritus. In 1989, he was awarded USAC’s Ross Hadley Memorial Achievement award for his contributions as a USAC official and won several similar awards from the 500 Oldtimers. He also served on USAC’s Safety and Administrative Rules Committees.
