CLASSICS DOMINATE 9-DAY USAC INDIANA RACING SCHEDULE

 


Traditional racing events dominate the USAC Indiana racing calendar for nine days, beginning this Friday. Included are some of the most revered short-track races in America.


 


Races which form the foundation of American short-track racing history dominate the period leading up to the May 29 Indianapolis 500, giving race fans a wide variety of competition to enjoy.


 


The calendar of USAC races in the Hoosier State between May 20 and May 28 is as follows:


 


FRIDAY, MAY 20 – Bloomington Speedway – The “Larry Rice Classic” honors the memory of a great USAC champion and features the AMSOIL National Sprint Cars on the action-packed quarter-mile dirt oval.


 


SATURDAY, MAY 21 – Tri-State Speedway (Haubstadt) – The “Hut Hundred” features the Mopar National Midget Series in a 100-lap race which starts with a 33-car, three-abreast field of cars on the banked quarter-mile dirt track.


 


WEDNESDAY, MAY 25 – Bryant Heating & Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome – The opening event in USAC’s “Elite-8” Midget series at the one-fifth mile paved oval showcases the Mopar D1 Midgets, Ford Focuses and Focus Young Guns.


 


THURSDAY, MAY 26 – Terre Haute Action Track – The 41st running of the First Financial Bank “Tony Hulman Classic” is a coveted race featuring the AMSOIL National Sprint Cars on the legendary half-mile dirt Wabash Valley Fairgrounds oval.


 


FRIDAY, MAY 27 – Indiana State Fairgrounds – The “Hoosier Hundred” kicks off the TRAXXAS Silver Crown Championship at the storied one-mile dirt oval where Indianapolis 500 champions honed their skills.


 


SATURDAY, MAY 28 – Lucas Oil Raceway (Indianapolis) – The “Night Before the 500” has always been a target for Indianapolis 500 fans and a 50-lap feature caps the Mopar National Midget action on the ultra-fast .686-mile paved oval. This year, the winner’s share is an all-time Midget near-record $20,000, thanks in part to an endowment from the late long-time Midget racing scribe and fan Crocky Wright.
